9-10-39: Cynthia Powell is born in Blackpool.

-When Cynthia is 17 when her beloved father dies of cancer. Unknown to many, this tragic loss creates a strong bond and understanding between Cynthia and John, who also loses a parent at 17(his mother). Julian Lennon also will lose John at 17.

-John and Cynthia meet in Liverpool Art College where they both are pursuing art in 1957. At first they both don't like each other too much until John begins to steal her art materials and constantly tease her about her primness. These are obvious attempts at gaining attention from Cynthia and soon Cynthia develops a crush on John.

- At a party in 1958 John asks Cynthia to dance. She says no saying she's engaged. A determined John replies, "I didn't ask you to marry me did I?" The two dance closely and intimately as the rest of the party looks on at the unlikely combination.

-Later, John and Cynthia go to the pub for a drink. Cynthia loses John in the crowd and smoke, beginning to think it was all a sick joke. However, as she nears the door, John shouts out, "Did everybody know Miss Powell was a nun then?" She turns around, their eyes meet, and she goes over to his side. Later after returning to John's flat, they make love for the first time and are inseparable from that point on.

-John becomes increasingly possessive over Cynthia. The slightest move toward another man sends him off the handle in jealousy. Even though John doesn't like Cynthia so much as speaking to another man, he feels it's ok to dabble with other women. However, John puts Cynthia on a pedestal. She is classier, smarter, and prettier than any of the other girls he had been with. John's biggest fear is Cynthia discovering his unfaithfulness. Even at this age, John doesn't want to hurt Cynthia. They are rarely out of each other's company and often sit together for hours on end holding each other's hands in coffee shops, just talking and looking into each other's eyes.
FACT: After college one afternoon, Cynthia and John return to his flat for an afternoon of love making. Cynthia soon begins to suffer from appendix pain in the middle of it and it is John who dresses her, picks her up, and carries her to the train station, bundling her onto the train.

-On August 23, 1962 Cynthia and John marry after Cynthia becomes pregnant. They had already been together nearly five years and marriage had been mentioned in letters from Hamburg from John earlier that year. He suggested they get engaged but nothing was ever done. Pete Best also said  in many interviews and his book, John often talked about how he wanted to settle down with Cynthia eventually at one point and start a family. Sadly, the two were forced to be married too young.

-On April 8, 1963 John Charles Julian Lennon is born to his parents, John and Cynthia Lennon.

Cynthia remains John's wife during Beatlemania, John's controversial Jesus Statement, the Sgt. Pepper faze, and India. Cynthia is John's home base. She provides him with love and support in anything he does. John knows she will always be there when he gets home and finds comfort and love in her. She is his roots, a reminder of where he comes from.

In the late 60s, John becomes heavily involved with drugs. Cynthia refuses, thinking of their son. John begins to change. He is finally affected by the fame and drugs. He is no longer the same man she fell in love with. However, John wants Cyn to change with him. He constantly tries to convince her to take drugs with him, an odd attempt at saving their relationship. On one horrific LSD trip, with John leading her through it, Cynthia begins to cry, seeing hellish images. John comforts her, saying how much he loves her and that he'll never leave her. After the trip, Cynthia realizes it's something she never wants to go through again. She also realizes the marriage is over. John changed. She remained the same girl he fell in love with, later saying that was her biggest mistake. He is no longer on the same communication level and communicating becomes impossible. Their marriage is really over before Yoko Ono.

In 1968, Cynthia returns from a holiday catching John and Yoko in bathrobes. She runs out, shocked and hurt. Cynthia herself has an affair with Magic Alex, John's close friend, after a night of crying and drinking. Unknown to many, Cynthia RETURNS to the house a few days later and John PURSUES her to stay, saying it was nothing with Yoko. Obviously John was going through much heartache and confusing in deciding whether or not to officially end the marriage. He couldn't decide between the two women and Cynthia and John remain together for a few more months.

A few months later, before leaving for another holiday, John doesn't even say goodbye. Cynthia remembers him laying on the bed, dazed out and confused. In Italy, she opens a newspaper to see John and Yoko together, in public. She knows their marriage is officially over and it becomes final on November 8, 1968.

Through the years, John's relationship with son Julian becomes strained. This is most likely because of Cynthia. To John she was a reminder of who he used to be, what his life used to be like and he couldn't deal with that. A strong connection and love had been broken and John feels it should be broken forever. If not, it brings back too many memories. Keep in mind John went through a tough childhood with both parents walking out on him, fame taking it's toll, and drugs changing him. John couldn't deal with Cynthia so he pushed the situation away. Sadly, it's Julian who really has to pay for it. John used to tell Cynthia in the early days the best form of defense was attack. She just never imagined someday she's be on the receiving end. Because Cynthia is a reminder of his past, and the woman he used to love, John often puts her down and says not-so-nice things about her in the 70s. It is his way of protecting himself. In reality talking about Cynthia makes him vulnerable and insecure. That's why he does it. Also talking about your ex not so nicely is a sign that you are not only insecure but not entirely over them...

On Dec. 8, 1980 John is shot to death outside the Dakota in New York City. Yoko Ono does not allow Cynthia to come to the states with Julian, who is in no state to travel by himself. He is forced to. This is something Cynthia will never forgive Yoko for. To this day, Cynthia states that John was her first love, and her true love. They loved each other before the Beatles, before the fame, and before the drugs. Perhaps Cynthia was the one the real John loved. The John before he got disfigured by the myth...
